This is a big, stupid, laugh of a film. It’s a science fiction type adventure, with comic book roots, and an almost non-stop all action thrill of a ride.
It’s populated by wafer thin characters – albeit not your typical comic book hero material – boosted by a clever, sassy script, and moments of fine humor. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, thankfully.
The special effects are terrific. They are so good, you don’t notice them – instead everything seems so, er, real.
The plot is daft, hackneyed, and almost irrelevant. There is some powerful object and lots of people want it. The big baddie wants it. So does another big baddie. The good guy retrieves it. But then…
The sound track features some great music, primarily due to one of the plot strands that I will not disclose. Just know that you may find your feet or fingers tapping away while you (silently) sing along. Well, that’s what I did.
Finally, the film runs about two hours and it flew past. So, terrific entertainment. Bubblegum for the brain. But good quality gum.
