Lost in translation

There are times when I am speaking in the office and it’s deadly quiet around me. Why? Some Israelis love the Scottish accent. Even though mine is not what you would call strong, the difference between that and the English dialects they are used to from mainstream media, is enough to interest them. Some are entertained. Some are amused. Indeed, some of our former USA residents are equally intrigued – though some struggle to get their head round even the slightest Scottish twang.

This explains why CBS, doing an interview with local MP Jim Murphy about the Glasgow helicopter crash, used subtitles. I kid you not.
