If Israel is losing the war of ideas on University campuses (and elsewhere), it’s stories like this which point to one substantial reason: fear.
One source said JSoc had been “decimated by these events” with Jewish students left “arguing with each other” and “scared” to defend Israel on campus.
It would appear that freedom of expression on UK university campuses may not extend to those who support Israel. This suggests there is another fear: the fear anti-zionists have about what happens when people hear Israel’s point of view. In other words, they want to shut down pro Israeli discourse because they are scared the truth will get through.
That may make tough demands of Jewish students in the UK – and something definitely needs to be done to support them. But it also highlights how every single pro Israel message that is out there, is important. So, if you can add to the struggle, please do so.
