I have a minor medical condition which I went to see a specialist about yesterday. He diagnosed the problem and said:
There are three possibilities.
The first is to do nothing. The problem may go away over time, but it might not.
The second is to give a cortisone injection. There is a 50-60% chance it will work.
The third is for surgery, under local anesthetic. There is a 100% chance it will work.
I considered what he had told me, and asked:
What do you recommend, doctor?
He replied:
What I told you is what I recommend. Do nothing. Or, a cortisone injection. Or, surgery, under local anesthetic.
And he added:
The choice is yours.
And I thought to myself: it’s advice Jim, but not as we know it…
