Because…

Because I love baseball, and because I go to an informal Shabbat Kiddush club, and because we talk sports as well as Torah, and because the best way to follow a season is to follow an individual club, and because I love New York, and because I was asked so nicely…

…this year I will be following the New York Mets. (No, not the Yankees. No, not the Florida Marlins who have won the World Series every year I have been to Florida to see them play.)

The Mets start the season with a home game against the excellent Detroit Tigers*, and it’s fair to say expectations in the Mets camp are not high. However, it’s time to be a real baseball fan and experience the agony of supporting a team instead of just loving the game. (At least, that’s what I have been sold told.)

Go Mets!

*Update: I screwed up reading the schedule. The Mets’ opening game is at home against the Braves on Thursday. (I hate Spring Training games!)
